Employment Services

At Life Skills, our Supported Employment Services focus on discovering a person’s interest, developing career goals, and identifying a job that fits their needs.

Clients are paired with an Employment Specialist and together they define career goals, create/update a resume, participate in mock interviews, and identify potential job and volunteer opportunities. Once a client is hired, the Employment Specialist arranges transportation to and from work and supports the client through the transition; this could mean communicating with a work supervisor on individual needs or advocating for a client on the job. Finding employment is excellent, but we want to ensure our clients stay happily employed.

The focus of vocational training is the development of general work skills, habits, and attitudes.  We teach a variety of skills:  interpersonal skills, attitude, cooperation, teamwork, communication skills and time management.

Prevocational Program

We start the process with our prevocational program focusing on skills such as following instructions and procedures; ability to plan, organize, improve with practice and building confidence.

To help with these Life Skills provides a real work environment through their laundry facility.  We unstill the skills that will be necessary for future independent employment.

  • Responsibility & Integrity

  • Time Management

  • Personal Appearance

  • Problem Solving

  • Critical Thinking

  • Positive Attitude

Enclave Sites

Another way LSTC works with vocational training is our enclave program.  This is a supervised work training program that helps define skills necessary in obtaining and maintaining a successful job placement.  A crew member supervises a group of three or more individuals providing janitorial and other services for local business, churches, agencies and civic groups.  The job coach who is on site with the crew at all times provides the support needed to insure a successful and positive experience for the client as well as for the business contracting the service.  The experience enables our clients to build skills in specific job performance to learn appropriate workplace conduct.

Supported Employment

Supported Employment is our last and most important step.  The purpose of this program is to assist job candidates in achieving their individual employment goals.  LSTC’s certified team will work with individuals to lay out a long-term employment plan by defining skills using:

  • Job Discovery

  • Career Exploration

  • Job Shadow

  • Workplace Readiness

  • Job Coaching

Benefits to Employers

  • On-Site job training

  • Additional training, as necessary

  • Follow-up services for the duration of employment
